Split an image into 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 equal parts

Rows divide a picture from top to bottom; columns divide it from left to right. Use these settings to cut a photo into halves, strips or a grid of tiles. All sizes below assume an equal grid before you move any lines.

Image splitter rows and columns for common tile layouts
ResultRows × columnsExample source → tile size
2 vertical halves1 × 21200 × 800 → 600 × 800 px
2 horizontal halves2 × 11200 × 800 → 1200 × 400 px
3 vertical strips1 × 33240 × 1080 → 1080 × 1080 px
4 parts (2 × 2 grid)2 × 22000 × 2000 → 1000 × 1000 px
6 parts (2 × 3 grid)2 × 33000 × 2000 → 1000 × 1000 px
9 parts (3 × 3 grid)3 × 33000 × 3000 → 1000 × 1000 px

You can choose up to 10 rows and 10 columns for 100 tiles. To get an exact tile size, resize your image to the required dimensions before splitting. Dimensions that do not divide evenly produce tiles that differ by at most one pixel.

Image splitter for Instagram grids and carousel slides

Make a 3 × 3 photo grid

Choose 3 rows and 3 columns to split one picture into nine separate images. A square source gives square tiles when its dimensions divide evenly by three. Use the image cropper to prepare the overall composition, keeping important text and faces away from cut lines. Check how your profile displays posts before publishing: preview shapes and gaps can affect how a tiled picture appears.

Split a panorama into swipeable slides

Use one row and several columns to turn a wide photo into a carousel. For three square slides, start with a 3:1 panorama, such as 3240 × 1080 pixels. Export the three tiles and arrange them in numbered order. For other slide shapes, prepare your image for Instagram before cutting it, so every slide has consistent dimensions.

Custom image slicer with draggable cut lines

Use the equal grid as a starting point, then drag the blue handles to split an image into unequal sections. Add a vertical line to separate side-by-side panels or a horizontal line to divide a long screenshot. The numbered preview updates as you move each cut; exported tiles use the adjusted positions.

For precise slices, enter pixel positions under Custom cuts. On a 900-pixel-wide image, vertical cuts at 200 and 650 create strips measuring 200, 450 and 250 pixels wide. These cuts span the full image; use the photo cropper when you only need one rectangular area.

For a design with several panels, add text to the complete image before slicing it. To publish smaller files afterward, compress the downloaded image tiles. Keep a copy of the original if you plan to change the layout later.

How to split an image online

  1. Choose your image. Open a JPG, PNG, or WebP file from your device or drag it into the tool.
  2. Choose your split. Set rows and columns for an equal grid. Drag the blue split lines to adjust individual cuts, or enter custom pixel positions for precise horizontal and vertical slices.
  3. Check the numbered preview. Tiles run left to right, then top to bottom. Pick PNG for transparency or JPG for photos.
  4. Split and save. Download any tile separately or get all parts as a ZIP with numbered row and column filenames.

One picture, several ways to split it

Split an image in half

Choose 1 × 2 for two vertical pieces or 2 × 1 for two horizontal pieces. Useful for paired prints and side-by-side designs.

Split an image into 4 or 9 parts

Use a 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 grid for photo tiles, puzzles, reference sheets, or a social media grid. The preview shows the layout before export.

Create horizontal or vertical strips

Keep one row to make vertical strips, or one column to make horizontal strips. Try 1 × 3 for a three-panel panorama.

Cut at exact pixel positions

Custom cuts let you separate uneven sections of a screenshot, scan, or design. All cuts apply across the full width or height of the image.

Keep your original detail

The splitter slices the original image without scaling it. If a 1200 × 800 image is split into 2 rows and 3 columns, each of the six tiles measures 400 × 400 pixels. If the dimensions are not divisible by your grid, the extra pixels are distributed among tiles so nothing is lost.

Need exact square tiles? Crop your image to the right aspect ratio first. You can also resize the source image before splitting or compress the exported tiles for sharing.

Image splitter FAQs

How do I split an image into equal parts?

Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image, select Equal grid, and choose your rows and columns. Two rows and two columns create four parts; three rows and three columns create nine. Check the numbered preview, click Split image, then download individual tiles or one ZIP.

Can I split a picture in half horizontally or vertically?

Yes. Use 1 row and 2 columns for left and right halves, or 2 rows and 1 column for top and bottom halves. The same controls let you split an image into 3, 4, 6, 9, or up to 100 parts.

Can I drag split lines to cut an image into unequal parts?

Yes. Drag a blue split line or handle with your mouse or finger to adjust a cut. Add horizontal or vertical lines using the preview buttons, or enter exact pixel positions in Custom cuts. Arrow keys move a selected line by one pixel; Delete removes it. Use Reset equal grid to return to evenly spaced tiles.

How do I split a panoramic photo into carousel slides?

Choose 1 row and the number of columns you want as slides. For example, a 3240 × 1080 image split into 1 row and 3 columns produces three 1080 × 1080 slides. Download the numbered tiles and arrange them from left to right. Crop or resize the source first if you need a different slide shape.

Can I split a PNG image and keep its transparent background?

Yes. Upload your PNG and choose PNG as the download format. Each tile keeps its transparency. The tool also accepts JPG and WebP images; downloads are available as PNG or JPG. Choose JPG only if a white background is suitable for transparent areas.

Does the splitter crop away pixels or resize my image?

No. Tiles retain their original resolution and together cover the entire image. When a dimension does not divide evenly, some tiles differ by one pixel. PNG output preserves transparency and avoids lossy compression; JPG output uses compression and places transparent areas on white.

Can I make a 3 by 3 image grid for Instagram?

Choose 3 rows and 3 columns to create nine numbered tiles. A square source image produces square tiles when its dimensions divide by three. Use the image cropper first if you need a specific overall aspect ratio, and check the current profile layout before posting. Tile numbering describes the image layout, not a prescribed posting order.

Is the image splitter free, and are images uploaded?

The splitter is free with no signup or watermark. Image decoding, splitting, and ZIP creation happen in your browser; the tool does not upload your image to a server. It accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP files up to 25 MB, 40 megapixels, and 16,384 pixels per side.
